و انا حاولت انزله ووصلت لاخر مرحلة لما قالو انه سوري اسفين النسخة الي عندك ما بتنفع
و عاملين موقع بتدفع فيه مبلغ 50 دولار بيفهموك انه انت يا مسكين انضحك عليك
و انك ما كنتش عارف انه نسختك مضروبة و عشان هيك نحنا بدنا نساعدك
و لما تدفع مننزلك الاكسبلورر
مش عارفة مين بيضحك على مين
و مايكروسوفت عارفة انه ملايين النسخ المضروبة شغالة و شايفين بس طبعا الهم مصلحة تضل
متل ما كننا زمان لما نعمل ايميل و يقولك وين بلدك و نروح نختار امريكا عشان ناخد سعة ايميل اكتر(زمان )

Anonymous, if it takes you 3 hours to install mp3 codecs, then you obviously are doing something wrong. Because it took me about 15 seconds. Drop me a line and i'll tell you how.
whoever says linux is for geeks, really doesn't know it. It is super friendly to use, but it's different. And that is the most difficult thing, to change your methods and the things you know. Other than that, i really must emphasis that linux is easier than windows to use... once you break the habit!!!
One more thing, I use linux not because it's easier, or because i hate microsoft, or because i am a geek. I use linux because i respect my own freedoms, and wouldn't want any corporation to be my boss and tell me what i can do and what i can't do.
Those who don't respect their freedoms are bound to lose them, and i don't wish to be among them.

Linux has everything that windows offers and much much more. And if you don't like the software that linux provides (yeah, right), you can run windows software on it (but this isn't too simple, it needs some knowhow). And it looks FAR FAR better than vista with that stupid old 3d desktop. (Linux had that for almost a year now, and it ROCKS).
But like i said before, it is different. No more C: and D:, no more control panel, and other little annoyances. Imagine yourself driving automatic cars all your life, and then switching to manual gear. It has some advantages, it has some disadvantages, but it is definitely strange at first look, and will take some time to get used to.
However, if you intend to run photoshop, sorry, linux can't help you there. But why run it on windows? use Apple in that case!!
I hate windows it is stupid, and i hate Microsoft big time, and i support all the cracker all over the world. i like Linux, and i confirm to you i'm not a geek. and i agree on the advantages that Faisal said. bas sha3'let freedom o ma freedom.. take it easy Faisal ;-)

When i said no control panel, i should have said there is a control panel in linux, but it is different. No more start->control panel->XXX, it's different names and different locations.
Anyway, go with whatever you are comfortable with. If you like digital slavery, then enjoy it :-p...
PS: If you want, go to ubuntu.com and download linux there, you can use it without having to install or remove anything from your machine. Just burn it on a CD, boot it up and enjoy :). (warning: since it is reading from CD, it is going to be very slow, but if you install it, you'll see how faster than windows it is).

4) Apart from Star and Open office, I don't recall seeing any office suite that works on Linux
5) There's nothing for free, if you run linux you will need an "in-house-guru"
6) If it takes an expert 15 minutes to install MP3 player (compared to taking a novice 0minutes on Mac or PC) then you're wasting your time. (just an example of how it's really hard
7) Open doesn't mean freedom. Infact you'll be tied in to the "freedom" slavery
8) Most companies are flocking back to windows after the bubble of linux has bursted and the real cost have been revealed.
9) The totcal cost of ownership for linux (TCO) is WAY HIGHER since ou will really need an expert to do everything for you
10) You don't need to ever recompile the kernel in Windows
11) If you don't understand what 10 means, you REALLY don't want to be running linux

Finally, a person who actually dared to fire a shot at linux, and -oh goodie :D- he, uses windows... this is going to be soooo much fun.

1) Sure open doesn't mean better, but it means you have control over it.
2) Open does not mean it has drivers, but if you actually looked at the driver list, you'll see that linux supports almost 3 times the number of devices that windwos vista supports.
3) windows has ZERO open source products.
4) you really didn't use Koffice, right? and by the way, star office is for sun solaris, not linux.
5) In house guru? lol, you need one to wipe all the worms, viruses, trojans, spyware and adware on your windows machine. But true, nothing is for free, linux cost is having to learn something new.
6) takes an expert 15 minutes to install mp3? where did you come up with that? i am no expert, and it took me about 15 SECONDS.
7) freedom slavery? lol.. what bullshit is that? if you consider it slavery that once you use free software you have to keep it free, then you have social issue.
8) what companies? entire companies and countries are moving TO linux and AWAY from windows. simple examples would be germany, britain, japan, france, ......
9) TCO?? omg, you really are a microsoft mid-level manager, right? Nobody cares about TCO, everybody cares about ROI (return on investment) and it is WAY better in linux.
10) You say that as if it's a good point? not upgrading the kernel for 6 long years of XP? in linux you don't have to do it, and when you want to, you don't actually compile, linux does that for you. You only say, linux, i want a new kernel, and poof there you have it. Serious, it is THAT simple.
11) Another point of M$ FUD. You don't need to even know how to use anything except the mouse to run linux. If you say anything else, it either means you never used linux, or you don't know how to use the mouse with linux.

13) Who brought mac into the scene? Mac is not free, and therefore i am against it as well.
14) With windows who do you blame if you have a problem? That EULA (End User License Agreement) that you click i accept on says that microsoft is not responsible for anything that happens, EVEN IF IT WAS THEIR FAULT. don't believe me? read it for yourself.
15) Well, maybe the are, but everybody else runs linux :).
And another note, windows is only out there on desktop machines, but super computing? linux or ibm. handheld and embeded devices? linux is eating it up. servers? linux is at 70% market share.

5) I haven't had a single virus, worm, trojan or spyware on any of my machines which are ON THE INTERNET with no protection for years. All I have is, simply, updated windows. Oh and by the way, if there were more people running linux, you would start seeing more of this. Even the scum of the earth (hackers and malware writers) didn't even bother with linux! why would users?
By the way, the number of Security issues found, is almost the same for windows and Linux. Just read latest security bulletins to know more

9) TCO, ROI what ever you want to call it, almost all have agreed that on the long run Windows has proven to be a better choice for companies. Don't take my word for it, Ask the millions who actually DID SWITCH and regretted it and they're paying more to switch back to windows. (switching back is cheaper than staying). Imagine this, if switching back is so much cheaper than staying with Linux, how much cheaper is it to not get fooled by the cool-aid slogans. All I need is half a brain to understand what I just said.
10) LOL .... Yes, tell that to my grandmother. How exactly do you expect her to recompile the kernel? Remember the computer is being used by people OTHER than the bunch of geeks running linux. You should try going out sometimes :)
11) It's WELL KNOWN that the learning curve for linux is FAR HIGHER than windows. Many things are just not intuitive or where you would expect them to be. Now I'm not saying linux has not come a LONG way. But on usability even the most devoted fans of linux have admitted that they were lagging. And that they will do something about it ... don't cry .. things will get better
12) Grudge? Against a cute toy like Mac? oh come on .. don't be silly. It's just CUUUUTTTEEEE :). Is it serious? hell no!

The best thing that you ever will do is:
1. Format your windows.
2. Install Linux red hat.
3. Drink your milk and have a deep sleep.
Qwaider:
1) Control over it, means i can use it for whatever purpose i want (you can't do that with windows), i can modify it if i wish, and i can give it to whomever i decide with no legal obligations. I don't have to respond to anybody when using it.
2) I compared to Vista because it is supposed to be the grand new height of M$, but since you say that their newest achievement is a load of crap, i'll compare to something else. Linux has more than 1.5 times drivers than XP SP2 has. happy now?
3) Disclosing your code isn't making it open source. If you can not redistribute it, or change it, it is NOT open source. Sadly that is the case with M$.
4) If you want a complete list of office productivity suites that run on linux then get a very long piece of paper, start office does run on linux, along with open office, koffice, goffice, microsoft office and many many more. How many run on windows?
5) Check your machine again. I assure you, you are infected. M$ security advisories tell you to format your machine every 6 months to make sure they are clean. True the number of advisories are the same for linux and windows (plus minus a few), but the severity of linux issues is far lower, and response times is almost 4 times faster than windows.
6) Well if 15 seconds is too long for you , wait until April 9, then Ubuntu linux would come with all those preinstalled and remove this point completely.
(i don't understand how you can wait for windows to reboot a million times a day, but not 15 seconds for linux to install mp3 codecs. Bistandards anyone??)
7) Latest games? i'm playing World of Warcraft and need for speed on my linux machines. Business model tools? i'm using toad for DB management, and kproject for project management tools. You really really really never used linux, or gave it a fair chance.

9) Who are they that you keep referring to? i can direct you to many reports and testimonials from gartner and others that show that linux is cheaper. Sure, there are those who switch back, there is no one solution for everybody, but it is completely not what you represent it. Sadly that is the M$ way of FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt) which they have been using since 1999 to combat new technologies.
10) Didn't i say you don't compile? In my entire experience with linux i upgraded the kernel more than 12 times, each of which took me 10 seconds, Linux would notify me that there is a new upgrade, and i would select Yes to upgrade and the rest happens automatically. If you didn't know, those windows updates? they upgrade your kernel, but you don't know. Same thing here.
11) If we take a person who never used computers before it wouldn't matter the least. Only those whose knowledge was contaminated with windows have a difficulty using linux, only because it is different. Not because it is unintuitive. At least in linux, when i want to control my keyboard, i can expect to find the controls in they keyboard section, not in keyboards, regional settings, and input devices.

14) How many security violations had entire businesses trip? when wall street screeched to a halt in the late 90's because of security flaws, what did microsoft do? absolutely nothing!!! The only software that is guaranteed and (makfool, sorry forgot the word in english) by the manufacturer is Oracle. If something goes oracle will pay you. Nobody else would even admit that it is their responsibility. Really, read the EULA.
15) You can't compare by sales, because microsoft sold almost double the server licenses that linux sold, but it actually lost 10% market share. That is because linux has lower ownership costs.
Winhp? that was only introduced in the last 18 months, and i really wouldn't bet my money it.
Linux is eating from the legacy share of Unix? that was correct back in 2001, now almost all servers are linux, mobile and handhelds are almost completely linux (windows CE proved to be a complete disaster), and super computing is between linux and IBM. Windows is only present on the desktop, and lately in the gaming console market. I wouldn't even mention the Zune, because so far it is a laugh.
Running unix on a laptop? lol.. that is funny indeed. Not running linux on a laptop? that is even funnier. It is your choice, but you definitely are missing out. now, where do you live? so i can come around and leech your internet access from your "secured" windows machine? :-p

On the Smartphone front. Even major players like Samsung, and Motorola have decided to produce Smartphones, I doubt the reason for that is because it's a failure. Fact is, it doing very well. Almost every person I know has a smartphone nowadays. None of which is running linux. Smartphones are doing today what iPhone is promising to do in few more months. But we'll have to see about that

On Supercomputing, Which is purely academia, it's the last strong hold of Linux. If you see that list 10 years ago, it would have been almost all Unix. Now, that has been displaced by Linux. Suprizingly, Cray and SGI are still holding thier own. My good old faithful SGI is still there. Allah yir7am Ayyamo :)

Actually, people get fed up of repeating themselves over and over and over ... This debate has been going on for years.
Dude, When I was your age, I was running Windows, Irix, AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, SCO, Mac, you name it, I ran it.
I don't want to say something stupid like "Windows is the king of all OS's" But I think there are many things to prove to you and to many people that 700million people using the most successful operating system in history.
Why did I say that last statement?
1) If you make the most successful company in History of Software, then you reserve bragging rights. please correct me if I'm wrong
2) When you ship the most units of anything, you reserver bragging rights
3) When you have faced fierce competition from (examples, not even nearly close to full): IBM, Novell, Apple, Oracle, Symantic, SCO, Sun, CA, Yahoo, Google, and many others. And you STILL make more profit than all of them.... I guess there is something to be said there. You say it. I will remain shut up

Please, go do your research. It would be a very good learning experience. Always remember that there are much more than meets the eye. But Answer me couple of things:
How much did the Linux international community contribute to Jordanian Economy? (Zero) You can check what Microsoft has done for Jordan.
How many CHARITIES benifit from Linux in Jordan? (Zero), check with Jordan River Foundation on the efforts of Microsoft, and Bill Gates (personally). Just to give an example.
You see, there is a lot of "junk" floating around, especially in Academia, and in small time development work. I have made this mistake in the past, and I'm not going to repeat it.
Microsoft totally dominates the SMORG market, and But Windows and Linux are chipping away from the legacy of Unix for many good reasons. But My good friend (and PLEASE I beg you check and confirm this) When you get to the server business. Linux is no longer free. (Call IBM and check with them)
Now, Microsoft is anti Piracy (as a policy) But, have you heard of a single person who was sued because he was using pirated Microsoft products? (I don't want to say it's legal) But have you? I've heard of people doing Jail time for downloading MP3s (Kids 12 and 13 here in the US)
Activation, registration, and all that junk is really not there to stop people from pirating the software but just as a bump on the road (I can get around it in seconds) Yet, I would never run pirated software (Software is my bread and butter, I wouldn't want someone doing that to me)
Anyway... Enjoy your research, and focus on Drivers, Usability, Internationalization, UI, compatibility and yes, security too :)

and abt the mp3 player thing if ur talking abt me im not that expert ! and it took me long time bcz i use fedora which has no packages that have to do with multimedia at all, if u use SUSE for example the mp3 player is already there ..

حسيت حالي بتفرج على دعاية نيدو!!
على فكرة أنا بستعمل لينكس، من سنتين بس، ومعاه تطورت مهاراتي بشكل كبير، لإنه مشاكلي بطلت إنه الدرايفرات فرطت فجأة، أو إنه فقع الكمبيوتر فايروس شل أمله!!
أو إنه الدرايفر من DIGITALLY SIGNED
وارتحت كمان من مشاكل النسخة المرخصة أو مش المرخصة
وخلصت من مشكلة الريجستري اللي بيتعبا وبده برامج تنظيف
وفرمت الجهاز لإنه تعبى زبالة وبده حملة تنظيف
وخلصت من الدوارة على كراكات إذا السوفوير غالي ... وبدي اشتري سي دي من البسطات اللي على الشارع!!
وخلصت من الرعب اني بستعمل TRIAL VERSION ممكن تنتهي فترة التجربة وهسة إجا دور الدفع!!!
أولادي صارو يشتغلوا وظائفهم على اللينكس في البيت!
وزوجتي بتحكي مع أهلها على برامج الاتصال في اللينكس
والولد بيعرف ويندوز في المدرسة، وتفوق في صف الكمبيوتر لإنه الويندوز في نظره لعبة تافهة، والنظام اللي في البيت بيخليه يفهم كثير أشياء لأنه مش مصنوع من البلاستك زي مايكروسوفت ويندوز كل شوي بينكسر، اللينكس مصنوع من الميلامين
فأنا بناءا على نظرية تربينا على الويندوز، أنا بربي أولادي على حليب لينكس اللي بيغذيهم بالمعرفة المطلقة، وفيه كالسيوم النص المفتوح، وبيخلصهم من العقد اللي تربى جيلنا عليها، الرخصة، والفايروس والدريفرات التعبانة والبرامج اللي مش معروف ليش ضاربة؟ فجأة
تحياتي وأرجو لكل الآباء والأمهات التركيز على العقد النفسية اللي تربينا عليها ومحاولة تربيتهم في بيئة ما فيها عقد، وفيها فيتامينات الإبداع والتعود على الأنظمة المفتوحة!!
تحياتي لكل اللي استطاعوا يهربو من سجن مايكروسوفت، بس مجرد انهم جربوا!!!
على فكرة أنا كنت أكره اللينكس قبل سبع سنين لما نزلته ما تعرف على كرت الصوت ولا على CD ROM DRIVER اللي نزلته منه تخيلوا!!!
وأخذت عنه فكرة سيئة جدا، جدا جدا جدا جدا جدا جدا جدا
وفجآة صارت معي مشكلة عجيبة لإني اشتريت لابتوب عليه ويندوز إكس بي، جنني إذا زبط درايفر الصوت بيخرب درايفر الشاشة، أو بيبطل يتعرف على الكيبورد!!
المهم نشف ريقي، وكل شوي فورمات، ودور على المشكلة، بدون فائدة.
فجأة صديق إلي اعطاني CD لينكس أوبن سوزي
ما كانت راح اخسر شي!!
نزلته، والمفاجأة كانت أنه تعرف أوتوماتيكيا على كل اشي في الجهاز!!!
وشبكته على النت واشتغلت نت، وشبكته بوصلة اليو اس بي على الموبايل واشتغلت عليه، وكمان شبكت انترنت عن طريق الموبايل!!
شوي تأكدت انه الوايرلس والبلوتوث كمان شغالين، وبكفاءة عالية.
حبيت اكمل التجربة واقرأ أكثر، اكتشفت انه اللينكس مغطى بقناع تجربتي السابقة فيه!!
ولاحقا بديت أحن للويندوز ... زي اللي مضيع الماما!!
بدون سبب!!
بس اللينكس كان زي الزوجة الحلوة اللي بتغير كل شوي موديل وبتخليك مهووس فيها!!! وبتنسيك اللي حواليك
بتقدر تغير شكل النظام بالكامل لويندوز
أو ماكنتوش
أو حتى تخليه شكلة أهبل، أو من الفضاء الخارجي ... زي ما بدك
كانت ها قشور...
بعدين تطور معي الأمور وصرت مغرم بنظامي الجديد، وصرت افكر إيش اللي ممكن ما يشتغل على نظامي، مش العكس!!!
طبعا في الطريق نزلت أوبونتو لأنه النت دايما ملياااااااان تفاصيل وحلول وإبداعات عن الأبنتو
بس بدكم تعرفوا يا جماعة اني واجهت شوية معيقات!
ما كانت الامور مخملية طول الوقت، بس فيه اوفيس وبقدر اعمل save لملفاتي اللي تفتح بالويندوز
وفي انترنت، وفية برامج رسم متطورة، وفيه ناس مخلصة ومبدعة كل يوم بتطور منتجاتها اللي ببلاش ولكل الناس هدية مجانية
كل شي موجود حتى الألعاب الثلاثية الأبعاد
والماسنجرات كلها على الإطلاق
وزيادة عليها ما بتحتاج لأي مضاد فايروسات أو درايفرات أو تخلف عقلي ....
وفيه مواقع بالهبل كلها بتحكي عن اللينكس، وبتدعم قواعد البيانات وبرامج الاتصال، ولغات البرمجة والترجمة LOCALIZATION
ومش عارف إيش ممكن بدكم راح تلاقوه
وعلى فكرة الأبنتو حالفين يمين يظله مجانا بشكل أبدي ويظل سهل التعامل للآدميين
وعلى فكرة (رقم إثنين) : النسخ القادمة من اللينكس راح تكون شيء مبهر (إن شاء الله) حسب تجمعات الأفكار المقدمة في مواقع لينكس المختلفة، عماله يصير إشي كثير راقي ومتميز مش راح نلاقي حد مدفوع الأجر يصنع إشي بيشبهه!!!!
كمان (على فكرة ثالثة) ممكن تطلب السيدي ويوصلك للمنزل ببلاش، للمنزل!!!!
